ISDS is a clause in trade deals that lets corporations sue countries in secret 'corporate courts' over policies that threaten their profits – even when they protect people and planet.

Join us on 15 October outside UK parliament to demand an end to ISDS:

The UK should not cave in to US pressure over its Digital Services Tax.

We have joined @taxjusticeuk.bsky.social and 20+ civil society organisations calling on the government to strengthen, not scrap, the tax and protect the UK’s right to set its own tax policy.

“The UK keeps negotiating in search of stability, but the stability never arrives. As soon as one negotiation ends, another demand appears.” @thomaswills.bsky.social We’re calling on the government to set clear red lines, resist economic coercion and give MPs a proper say.

What did those three deals actually deliver? 1️⃣ EPD: some tariff relief, but key issues unresolved 2️⃣ Tech deal: non-binding, paused within three months 3️⃣ Pharma deal: tariff relief, but higher NHS medicines costs Swipe through for the detail.

1️⃣ Economic Prosperity Deal

Announced after Trump imposed new tariffs on UK exports. It provided some relief for UK car exports, but important elements remained unresolved and the agreement itself was not legally binding.2️⃣ Technology Prosperity Deal
Presented as a “generational step change” in UK-US relations. But it runs to fewer than 2,000 words, creates no legally binding obligations and was paused within three months, amid continued US pressure over food standards, online safety and the Digital Services Tax.3️⃣ Pharmaceutical deal
After Trump threatened 100% tariffs on pharmaceuticals, the UK secured an exemption. But in return, it agreed changes that will significantly increase the amount the NHS pays for medicines, despite repeated promises that the NHS and the price it pays for medicines would not be on the table in US trade negotiations.

One year ago, the UK-US Tech Prosperity Deal was presented as a huge prize.

Our new briefing finds a wider pattern: three deals, little certainty and growing US pressure on UK policy.

UK-Turkey trade talks resume later this month.

The current deal has no provisions on human or workers’ rights.

The upgraded deal must change that: workers’ rights should be a condition of closer trade, backed by strong and enforceable protections.

The UK ban on trade with illegal Israeli settlements is welcome, but long overdue.

For years the UK recognised settlements as illegal while allowing trade that helped sustain them.

TJM has long called for action. The measures must be comprehensive and enforceable.

As pressure for deep-sea mining grows, Pacific governments should be free to protect people and the environment without facing investor claims.

New research from PANG shows how #ISDS could constrain that freedom, including through longstanding UK investment treaties.

If the government stands behind its medicines deal with Trump, why is it doing everything possible to evade political and public scrutiny?

Is it because they know potentially forking over BILLIONS from our NHS to big pharma would be deeply unpopular?
