Thanks Simon. At the end of the day he means well so that's the main thing
Always good to chat to @tonygroves.bsky.social about housing politics. We discuss the Spanish situation and then how it relates to housing politics internationally and in Ireland
Most 2026 story ever
"I haven't managed to defend my home, but I have fought so that others can learn to fight for what's theirs." Maricarmen Abascal 2 November 1928-7 October 2026 Photo EFE/Archivo/Sergio Pérez
The politicisation of social housing along national lines is only going to get more intense IMO, and I feel people are woefully underprepared for this discussion @tonygroves.bsky.social
Pedro Sánchez’s coalition won reelection in 2023 based on a real record of measures to rein in the cost of living. But as snap election are called, pulling off the same trick again now may be much harder, after three years of institutional deadlock. My analysis:

Spanish tenants unions call for general strike on the 11th of November
All Ill say is listeners can draw their own conclusions about who dominated who
Not for the time being anyway
Tenants unions in Spain are calling for a general strike in response to housing crisis.
The politics of housing in Spain has taken centre stage, and reflects what I call the 'post-neoliberalisation' of housing politics. Bonus post out this morning @tonygroves.bsky.social @javigil.bsky.social @valescal.bsky.social
The council published data on nationalities on social-housing list. "We shouldn't be having a shit fight about who is getting the scraps of our housing system," says one researcher.
There's been more research recently on the relationship between housing & issues like energy & health. Today's post looks at link with water poverty/precarity, based on a new report @pbresnihan.bsky.social @orla-hegarty.bsky.social
