I am not a specialist on these Centers. Just reading the news. I am sure there are people actually studying them.

In my experience, most “lefties” bow to the temptations of money in a fairly similar way as “non-lefties” — they just use a lot of self-serving arguments to justify their hypocrisy.

Make sure to read up on the Center before applying. Try to get some information from political science colleagues that work at that university or in that state.

This is a public service announcement for junior non-U.S. (based) political scientists. You will see several jobs advertised at U.S. universities that are in (relatively) new Centers for “Civil Leadership” or “Western Thought” etc. These are GOP-created Centers with a clear political motivation!

You don’t need to be smart to make much money. Particularly in the U.S., if you are from the right family or at the right place at the right time, you just have to be not incredibly stupid.
