Trying a learning game of #CuiusRegio from @fgradaille.bsky.social and @gmtgames.bsky.social. Bucquoy's forces appear to have gotten ahead of themselves. Am liking the design so far, but there's a lot still to learn.

At the start of the Bohemian Revolt in 1618, Imperial forces disordered after attacking Iglau.

A Look at Cuius Regio: The Thirty Years War

So, with all the new Thirty Years War games hitting the shelves, is this one worth your attention? I will tell you that after playing a couple of the smaller scenarios, I really, really want to play the full game.

In today's diary, I get into one of my favorite subjects: agency in historical games. Did the Opium Wars have to happen? Were the player's historical counterparts in a position to prevent them?

It's a big subject, and a place where the 2e differs sharply from 1e.

1/2 Geoff has an interesting observation concerning how humanity may have to adapt to maintain its mental acuity in a world of AI. It echoes James Dunnigan, founder of SPI, who called wargaming the hobby of the overeducated.

A rainy evening made for the perfect excuse to finally learn @gmtgames.bsky.social 's Cuius Regio which I'm pairing with C.V. Wedgewood's book on the 30 Years War. I've wanted to read this book for so long, and it does not disappoint. I can't believe she was so young when she wrote it (late 20s!).

I hope you like it. It makes me extremely happy to give back some enjoyment to the designers that have given me such good times with their games.

I'm now in the middle of exam corrections, so I'm not sure I'm so cool! By the way, I love Ted's philosophy of life and I try to do something similar with my classes. It works so well with teenagers!
