Our blogger goes in search of hidden treasures at Moorlands nature reserve near York and proves that you don't need to be an expert mycologist (or even own a fancy camera) to discover the incredible fungi hidden in our woodlands! 🍄

For Alan's alt theme of #LongBeaks . For me it's got to be a Curlew. Captured at Filey Dams. I just adore them.

Apparently this royal fern on @yorkswildlife.bsky.social Askham Bog is over 250 years old? Doesn't look a day over a century...

A Willow Emerald Damselfly. Filey Dams

#Insects #WildlifePhotography @yorkswildlife.bsky.social

A close-up shot of a metallic-green willow emerald damselfly resting vertically on the thorny stem of a dried, brown wildflower. The damselfly's slender, iridescent body glints in the light, and its translucent wings are held partially spread at a 45-degree angle. The background is a soft, out-of-focus blur of green vegetation.

Curlews in 'Rockband Photoshoot Formation' at North Cave Wetlands. It's a fab place with varied habitats and the brilliant 'Little Butty Bus' for a proper bacon sandwich and a cup of tea as a reward for the walking! One of our favourites! @yorkswildlife.bsky.social

Are there stories in peat? There certainly are and they’re best told slowly – you can find out what tales peat has to tell in @yorkshirepeat.bsky.social’s Slow Storytelling exhibition, and read about them here: www.yppartnership.org.uk/blog/lucy-ca...

The exhibition is free and runs until 26/10/26.

Good evening ✨

A flock of Eurasian curlews (we counted 74 on the reserve in total) enjoying the shallow water, with one enthusiastic bather making a big splash in the background.
Filey Dams this afternoon.

#StunDay #BirdsOfBluesky #Wildlifephotography #ECK @yorkswildlife.bsky.social

A medium, eye-level shot captures a flock of roughly a dozen Eurasian curlews wading in a calm, shallow body of water. The birds feature mottled brown and white plumage, long legs, and distinctively long, downward-curving bills. Most stand or move quietly through the water, casting faint ripples around them. In the upper left background, one curlew vigorously bathes, sending a dynamic explosion of white water droplets into the air.
