Crazy monkeys have crazy genomes! New preprint by @axeljensen.bsky.social investigates karyotypic evolution in African guenons www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...
These primates are infamous for high genetic, phenotypic, ecological & karyotypic variation, they diversified 12mya and still they hybridise!
Today we had prof. Maria Servedio (@servedio.bsky.social) from University of North Carolina come give our annual von Hofsten lecture. She gave an excellent and thought-provoking talk on how we should be mindful of generalizing our evolutionary models.
Last week on Friday, our PhD student Yishu Zhu had her thesis nailing. She will defend her thesis titled "Divergence in mitochondrial aerobic metabolism and ecological speciations" on October 9th.
In a new paper from Ksenia Khudiakova and Nick Barton, Göran shows that the diversifying effects of balancing selection can be "contagious" and spread to other regions of the genome, if epistasis is strong and shows context-specific dominance.
