Last Sunday at our Spogomi (competitive litter picking) Showdown at the British Science Festival in Southampton, 13 teams collectively bagged 141kg of rubbish - mostly glass bottles. That's the equivalent of a large panda, an average Sumo wrestler, or an upright piano 🫨 Well done, everyone!

Seriously enjoyed the @britsciassoc.bsky.social award lecture by @tomhyatt.co.uk a couple of days ago! We were taken on a wonderful journey which brought James Clerk Maxwell to light, via the materialisation and dematerialisation of electromagnetic art. Can't wait to see what comes next! 👀

A man wearing a white lab coat, safety glasses, and purple gloves pours a glowing liquid from two clear bottles simultaneously into a large beaker on a table in front of him. The mixture glows brightly blue inside the beaker. An eye-level medium shot captures a smiling woman and man standing behind two white robots on a table against a white-paneled wall. A smiling young man with dark hair stands with arms crossed behind a table showcasing a small, white-and-black model Mars rover. He wears a bright blue t-shirt with the University of Southampton Outreach logo on the chest. Two smiling young women stand behind a green-topped table outdoors. The woman on the left holds green, stringy slime, while the woman on the right shines a black UV flashlight onto it.

Today EngineeringUK's Gender Pathways collective - which includes the British Science Association - launch #40by40. We need to increase the number of women and girls on engineering and tech pathways to at least 40% by 2040.

We're calling on the UK Government to act:

www.engineeringuk.com/40by40

Break the cycle. Only 17% of the engineering and tech workforce are women - change starts in our schools
