October 4 - 11 is Banned Books Week. Prisons continue to be the largest site of censorship in the country, leaving incarcerated readers without links to their friends, families, and fiction from the outside. Help support incarcerated readers and Midwest Books to Prisoner by donating a book!

A maroon, gold, and blue flyer that reads, "Banned Books Week. October 4-11. Support independent bookstores and readers in prison! This week, when you buy a book from us for someone in prison, your gift will be matched in cash and donated to Midwest Books to Prisoners! Shop in store or on our online wish list!"

Join us October 21st for our With Feathers book club's discussion of Forest Euphoria by Patricia Ononiwu Kaishian. Braiding her personal story with science, Kaishian shows us this making of a scientist and introduces readers to the queerness of all the life around us.

A hand holds a copy of Forest Euphoria up in front of pink and yellow native roses. The cover shows crows, snakes, and fungus.

What a treat to sell books for @wiscobirder and @extremelyaccuratebirds at @urbanbirdfest this past weekend! Thanks to everyone who came to say hey.

A photo of the Nature Museum from the pond. Dexter Patterson, the WiscoBirder, sits at a table showing off his field guide, Birds of the Great Lake. Dexter signs copies of his book. The Extremely Accurate Birds podcast boys, Tommy Siegel and Billy Libby, perform a song about if Bruce Springsteen really wanted to see an Indigo Bunting.

This weekend is The Urban Birding Festival and we'll be there! Here's where to find us. Our storefront will be open for normal shopping hours.

A half tone vintage map of Chicago's geology fills the background. Over top is a light blue text banner reading, "Skunk Cabbage Books at the Urban Birding Festival, Sept. 18 - 20". Inset is a photo of a white non-binary person wearing a mask and a Skunk Cabbage Books ballcap with a pigeon sitting on their shoulder at last year's Urban Birding Festival. A halftone map of Chicago's geology fills the background. A blue text bar with an inset photo of Dexter Patterson's Birds of the Great Lakes reads in black, "Friday: Bird Joy for All with Dexter Patterson." A second banner with an inset photo of the cover of Extremely Accurate Birds by Tommy Siegel reads in black, "Saturday: Extremely Accurate Bird Songs with Tommy Siegel and Billy Libby". A photo of a diorama at the Nature Museum of a taxidermied deer looking up at a fake oak tree. Blue text boxes read, "Saturday + Sunday: Fest HQ @ Notebaert Nature Museum. 10 am - 4 pm."
