Also back in time I read the essay "When the Book Wasn’t Better or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Adaptation" by the @inktofilm.bsky.social team of Luke Elliott and James Bailey. A fascinating discussion about adaptations. www.uncannymagazine.com/article/when...

This was an excellent article and a wonderful podcast. Any of my followers who are also avid readers and/or lover of movies should read this article and most importantly follow this great podcast.

One of the things I’ve found as I get older is that I’m completely uninterested in “the book is always better” as a truism. Excited to dig into this!

Maaaaan, after this you should have had the next episode be Annihilation! (But you probably already did it.)

Author @lauracranehill.bsky.social (WIFE SHAPED BODIES) joins to compare Stalker (1979) to the book it was based on: ROADSIDE PICNIC. This strange, beautiful film got us wondering, would this be the way to adapt her novel? Our full episode with her is available now wherever you listen to podcasts!

It’s long been a dream of mine to be published by @uncannymagazine.bsky.social, one of THE top magazines in genre fiction. Today, I’m excited to say I am—but with nonfiction! That I get to share the spotlight w/ my Ink to Film co-host @jamebail.bsky.social makes it all the better. I hope all enjoy!

Movie 3 is “We Have Always Lived in the Castle” (2018) based on the novel of the same name by Shirley Jackson. Our coverage begins on this one for my podcast Ink to Film later this week!

A first time viewer (@luminousluke.bsky.social) joins two Stalker fans to go deep into The Zone, but is it better than the source, ROADSIDE PICNIC? Author @lauracranehill.bsky.social re-joins the show to cast her vote!

Decided to challenge myself to watch 31 horror movies I haven’t seen yet this October, basically because I’ve missed a bunch I wanted to see over the years and why not knock a bunch out, right? So I put them all in a big list and did a random selection—first up is Nope (2022)! Excited 👽

It's really the last line. Was yours: "HAPPINESS, FREE, FOR EVERYONE, AND LET NO ONE BE FORGOTTEN!” or ""Happiness for everybody, free, and no one will go away unsatisfied!"? Hard to capture the innocence of the last words (some argue it's meant to be cynical but I disagree).

That’s so fascinating! Thanks for the thorough breakdown. I’m fairly certain it was the American version, as you call it. Regardless it led to a really interesting discussion as we weighed the final line and what it meant to Redrick when delivered

One of my fav books! The difference in nuance because of translation from the Russian into English (as far as the end is concerned) has always fascinated me and added that extra layer of love for the story.

@inktofilm.bsky.socialSep 25, 2026, 10:03 PM

Oh interesting, can you elaborate? We read the 2012 translation fwiw. Is there a significant difference?
