I saw a news article about the founder of an AI company "remaking a functioning Terraria" overnight
I was wondering if it was just modded Terraria as a publicity stunt, and never found out, because I started poking around their product and Discord and [ā¦]
@glyph I am intending to write about this, but you would not believe how many things pitched for executive leadership are just thinly veiled attempts to help them not address their issues in therapy
(or maybe you would, but I have concrete examples of the sales pitches because I have a CEO [ā¦]
@glyph I think I have somehow threaded the needle and only seen the posts where I'm not referenced but that makes my day! "Programming Isn't Special" is fantastic
And yes, avoiding the temptation is hard, especially when people say that. I asked my friends to only share with me the funniest [ā¦]
@glyph I did not realize you were on here! Firstly, hello, your writing rules.
Secondly, never go on Hackernews š¢ I stopped reading comments a few posts ago and my life is so blissfully free of pain now that I am not imbibing from the idiot firehose
Went off on Deloitte at a dinner, and only after the rant did one of the attendees note that they work at Deloitte I regret nothing
Howdy! I have a client that's hiring a data engineer (ideally with Snowflake experience, but they'll take anyone smart enough to figure it out) in Canberra. I can arrange for the automated screens and the like to be skipped, and the interviews will not have any leetcode-style nonsense. I've [ā¦]

Recently saw someone talk about their prestigious AI specialisation to a group of veterinarians, who then walked out thinking that the guy was an expert in Artificial Insemination and asked me "So what's ChatGPT?"
(I'm pretty sure that's the cause at least, as no one else has reported any issues)
Discovered today that I have so many subscribers to the blog that trying to see who is subscribed crashes Mataroa GLOBALLY for 10 seconds then returns a 502 I only check once a year because I don't care, but suddenly I care about because of the comedic value
@zzt @tael Titanfall 2 is sick as fuuuuuuuck. I was amazed to find out that Apex: Legends is a spin-off, because it was one of the dullest things I've ever played.
They even took the giant robots out of it, which is a truly baffling decision
Are you fucking kidding me Thank you AI
@deliverator Gerry Weinberg mention detected* Our consulting practice is based heavily off his work
@deliverator It probably sounds extra surprising because I might have worded that poorly and implied these are mostly programmers talking The 1GB thing will usually come from someone that has bootstrapped themselves into Extreme Excel Programming. But yes, it also comes from weak programmers [ā¦]
@deliverator The highest leverage tends to be when we're helping people that don't program. We get lots of: "That won't work." "That would be illegal because of Obscure Law In This Domain." "Nope." "That... wait, that would work. So you're saying this 'SQL' thing can read ONE WHOLE GIGABYTE of [ā¦]
@deliverator A large part of their method (and what my team does in non-crisis scenarios) is to fill the room with the best ground staff we can find. Oftentimes this ends up being people like quiet analysts who we see have touched every little bit of code but who don't get thought of a lot by [ā¦]
