[Killed by the State] Some of the people who are upset about a public execution might want to spend more time learning about the many people the USA kills every day who did not "need" to be killed. If you like I can find some examples of perfect victims of the state, but it shouldn't take a [ā¦]
[Killed by the State] We aren't having the conversation about abolishing the death penalty in all cases. The US is powerful enough to do this. We choose not to and in that way is the decline of the nation as I see it. We are, apparently, not powerful enough or wise enough to figure out how to [ā¦]
āFor years the Observer tried to get to the truth of Russian interference until we sacked the reporter involved for participating in union activitiesā
It comes after years of cover-ups & denials not least from Boris Johnson who was in charge of MI6 as foreign minister at the time & whose first act as PM was to ennoble the Baron of Siberia. But it also went beyond Johnson & Starmer continued it too. We now finally need some sunlight. 2/
NEW: Prime Minister Andy Burnham finally breaks a decade of UK govt silenceā¦& reveals there was āclearā Russian interference in the Brexit vote. 1/
@davidgerard god I scrolled back up and looked at āThis isnāt because each player is particularly expensive to support. The total cost has increased because so many people are playing, and we have taken out a bank loan to help keep the demo running.ā again and like, motherfucker
each player [ā¦]
I usually don't like when bad things happens because of people stupidity, but I will make an exception for those guys.
@davidgerard can any MMO engineers tell me if $70/player/month with no margin for profit and no cost limit or contract for third-party services is uhhh bad? how do I budget this
also lol @ local models being their backup plan when according to them the game barely works when it switches to a [ā¦]
@davidgerard you may not be surprised to find out that the 431 player peak lasted less than a day, that was their all-time peak and not even their average
@davidgerard this is fractally incorrect and I canāt stop digging
@davidgerard oh! and on top of that, it assumes the fucking final game isnāt any more complicated or longer than the demo!
why in fuck would anyone buy the game if thatās the case?
@davidgerard and $70 is the break even point too. no profits at all, and it assumes nothing goes wrong, nothing increases in price, the game doesnāt get popular at all, nobody does anything obvious to abuse the system, nobody plays it longer than a month
this is a fucking comedy of errors
@davidgerard like seriously, how does this work
which single price point makes the game go from an unexpected bank loan to sustainable?
if you assume everyoneās usage is the same (it wonāt be), nobody intentionally does anything to spend tokens (they will, gamers fucking hate AI and will [ā¦]
@davidgerard > However, the developers said that the cost of using AI will be included in the price of the game once it gets final release. āFor the paid release, we plan to account for expected AI usage in the gameās price,ā the team said in its update. āPlayers will not be charged separately [ā¦]
@davidgerard > SteamDB showed an average player count of under 10 people until late August, when it started gaining steam. By late September, this had ballooned to around 50 players, before finally hitting a peak of 431 on Oct. 1. āWe are currently spending over $1 [ā¦]
gosh who could have predicted that precisely this would happen [ā¦]

<- If you have a clue, you know AI is evil, but it's more evil than you think
@zzt Nicolas Cage being an ally in fighting the good fight was not on my bingo card but I'll take it
> āAmazon is a very AI-friendly company, to the tune of $50 billion invested in OpenAI,ā Cage said Saturday during a panel on the Empire Stage at New York Comic Con. āI am not an AI-friendly actor, so itās like, connect those dots! Iām not a member of their club. I didnāt sign the waiver to let [ā¦]
