@jola.devReposted by @shelf.cafeWrote about motivations for creating @shelf.cafe, (another) link aggregator site, why I'm using atproto for it, and how I'm trying to bootstrap it. Will follow with more posts on all the juicy technical details
ps you can now add an upvote widget to your blog!
@atstore.fyiReposted by @shelf.cafeshelf.cafe just joined AT Store! It's a calm link aggregator for the ATmosphere where you can discover independent blogs, vote on what matters, and explore related discussions across Bluesky. Four themes to choose from too.
@shelf.cafeshelf.cafe now renders your profile picture if available, piggy-backing on Bluesky's CDN. Long-term it would be nice to have a self-hosted image blob CDN.
Note that we do not depend on Bluesky for fetching the profile and all a Bluesky outage can cause is for the fallback image to be displayed!
@shelf.cafeBut no harm in having a conversation about it!
@shelf.cafeThere's definitely a distinction between being able to render your own front page from the data, which you could do today, and each app rendering links from the other ones. The latter doesn't feel immediately useful, what is good content differs from aggregator to aggregator
@jola.devReposted by @shelf.cafe@shelf.cafe items now have shiny per item OG images with votes/comments, and a little Bluesky indicator if there are linked Bluesky posts
@shelf.cafeUser submissions are live! Previously you were able to write straight to your own repo, but now you can submit through the site if you're logged in. Any atproto account works, including Bluesky, Eurosky, and Blacksky!
@shelf.cafeshelf.cafe now renders backlinks for Bluesky posts on each link discussion page, backed by the jetstream and a constellation fallback. See all conversations about a blog post in one place!
@shelf.cafeThe first submission made from outside the app, writing directly to a repo using the goat command line tool. We now ingest our own lexicon off the jetstream 🚀
spoiler: it's a gleam post
@shelf.cafeshelf.cafe now supports on protocol comments
