Swedish connections: - Navi Pillay served as a judge in the Akayesu case — the first time an international court convicted someone of genocide. In addition to Pillay, the panel included Lennart Aspegren, a Swedish judge and honorary doctor at Stockholm University. He passed away on 21 May 2026.
as well as UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. The prize can be read as a tribute to the personal perseverance required to advance international justice, even when the surrounding systems remain flawed.
from her groundbreaking role in the Akayesu case at the ICTR, where rape was for the first time recognized as an act of genocide, to her time as a judge and President of the ICC,
As a scholar, I see this prize as a recognition of a life's work rather than a single breakthrough. Navi Pillay has shaped the development of international criminal law over several decades —
My comment on the Nobel Peace prize being awarded Navi Pillay: This prize does not mean that international justice has arrived — it means the world still believes that those who have devoted their lives to pursuing it deserve to be recognized.

For the record, I think the story in NAZA shows potential war crimes, however it does not in itself show genocide. For genocide allegations to be successful, South Africa needs other evidence and that is what they try do in their submission.
I got the question whether South Africa can bring the movie NAZA into the genocide case at ICJ. The same allegations are already in South Africa's submission since 29 December 2023, made by the movie's director Yuval Avraham, in writing. See page 78 & footnote 194. www.icj-cij.org/sites/defaul...

The major platforms—Facebook, YouTube, and X—are all refusing to show the trailer for the upcoming documentary that eviscerates the ridiculous pest Elon Musk. So I guess we have to do our part to make sure it is seen.
