After decades of frustration, demolition of Llanhilleth’s derelict pithead baths is now expected by July 2027. 🏚️

Residents hope the site can become a green space for the community. But can the council deliver on its promises?

Could Denmark’s disability welfare system offer lessons for the UK?

Denmark provides financial security for people whose ability to work is permanently reduced, alongside subsidised employment and support services.

Should the UK consider similar?

So before you go freelance, just think about whether you're ready to add a whole lot of other plates to the ones you're already spinning. Because the likelihood is, in this industry right now, you'll have to do other things to supplement your income.

I'm now employed by a charity three days a week doing front-facing work, get a retainer fee from a publication to edit and write a bi-weekly newsletter based in the south Wales valleys, and then, on the side, in the evenings, I do my freelance journalism work once the kids go to sleep. (next)

I know that the journalism industry is suffering right now, and that many experienced, more-talented-and-connected-than-me journalists are turning to freelance work. When I saw this shift, I knew I couldn't make freelance journalism my main gig. (next)

It's Thursday, the first day this week that I've gotten dressed in anything other than my Purple Rain oversized t-shirt. The first full day this week I've been able to commit to freelance journalism. (next)

Welcome to La Office Medlicott: my setting-plaster haven of fallen autumn leaves stored on the Welsh dresser, empty cups of coffee on the table, scattered notebooks with notes too difficult to read, and a laptop with a broken keyboard. (next)

Every mother deserves a safe birth. Every baby deserves a chance.

Across Africa, a chronic shortage of midwives is putting both lives at risk. Investing in midwives means investing in safer births, healthier communities and better futures.

I'm looking for someone who can talk to me (for a British paper) about disability benefits in Denmark.

Please give me an email if you have an idea of someone who can answer questions for me!

TIMELY request!

Looking to speak to an expert who knows a lot about disability pensions in Denmark. And even better if the person also knows if Denmark's system could be applied in the UK.

Email [email protected] if you have a suggestion!

Their son Kyle even became a Shared Lives carer to support his brother.
