@derek.social.coop.ap.brid.gyTLDR, some variant on this meme:
@derek.social.coop.ap.brid.gyWhat did I do? Well, I followed the arm build kit instructions and assembled the pieces (the raspberry pi, the webcam, and the arm).
I'm doing a lot of #woodworking because the whole system will be embedded in an oak cookie I'm sanding, staining, inlaying a […]
@derek.social.coop.ap.brid.gyWorking on a project like this it's hard for me to really say what "I" did. A lot of the project is built on top of or is editing the work of a man named Richard (see the Instructables link in the previous post). He developed a method for capturing the state of the board and feeding it in to […]
@derek.social.coop.ap.brid.gyThe project is mostly built on top of code from: https://www.instructables.com/Chess-Robot-Raspberry-Pi-Lynxmotion-AL5D-Arm/
@derek.social.coop.ap.brid.gyMy current project! Hit a milestone yesterday: I can actually play a game of chess against my robot arm! #chess #robots #stockfish #raspberrypi

@derek.social.coop.ap.brid.gyI'm watching #WindTide&Oar, a documentary on engineless #sailing. https://www.windtideandoar.com/
This woman is living the dream. Below decks when the sun goes down, wood burning stove, working on a project. So cozy.
@leahstokes.bsky.socialReposted by @derek.social.coop.ap.brid.gyMy book, *The Carbon Wave*, is the #1 new release in Environmental Policy! Thanks to everyone who has picked up a copy so far. My deepest hope is that this book will catalyze a lot of new climate action, so thanks for sharing it with others. Really appreciate all the support!

@derek.social.coop.ap.brid.gyGood people of the fediverse, your opinion please. I'm making another chess board (this one a table!) and playing with color schemes. Any of these stand out, good or bad? I'm pretty sure I want a deep red/brown background.
@derek.social.coop.ap.brid.gyI would like to announce that I, too, have gone rogue.
@derek.social.coop.ap.brid.gyI've been working on my #raspberrypi powered #chess playing robot. I hit a wall trying to implement this design: https://www.instructables.com/Chess-Robot-Raspberry-Pi-Lynxmotion-AL5D-Arm/ This week I turned to #opencode and #qwen and have been astounded at how quickly it's managed to make board […]
@derek.social.coop.ap.brid.gyI'm really pleased with finally, finally articulating a throughline that I can use to link environmentalists across history with #TheLordOfTheRings. Industrializing England (1876), The Scouring of the Shire (1956), and industrial river pollution in India (2026) can all be described in a common […]
