I remain absolutely *stunned* regulators in the US didn't force this years ago. It seems like the least one could do to ensure a product is advertised even remotely truthfully.
@renchap I am rooting for Kenton's work on Durable Objects and Cloudflare OS, so this isn't really sad news for me, but it definitely sucks for anyone heavily invested in Deno. Of which I also know some folks.
@jbcrawford The one that remains super hard is COM/serial ports. One app can listen to one at a time, they are labeled by number, and weird issues can cause them to get stuck and then renumber themselves on reboot and their is no formal way to identify between say two serial adapters using the […]
@jbcrawford Don't ask. They are actually reasonably sticky and just get hidden/go offline if a given adapte is not present anymore determined by hardware ID I think. But the naming conventions in our case can have spaces and capitalization and many words. :)
@whitequark I will deadname the Sears Tower until the day I die.
Open source software is better than proprietary software, but you also have to select options that aren't terrible. I am blown away in 2026 someone thought Element was the way to go for chat.

@virtualbri Won't make it to tonight's episode tonight, but they have really knocked it out of the park. I was pretty skeptical on how it would turn out, especially with the new universe leading with Guy Gardner, but... nailing it every week.
(I love Nathan Fillion, but if he isn't doing his […]
When your amount of legal goofiness is at this level, the corporate death penalty is really the only answer. Facebook and Google should really not be allowed to exist as companies anymore.

Honestly what this makes me think about? The Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia and Jared Kushner probably get called n00bs and various slurs by just like... random school-age children. For some reason, that brings me a little joy […]
A cool update on the companies who decided to build the torment nexus: Companies are now legally obligated to build the torment nexus […]
@phil_stevens @mattblaze But it's insane to me companies often expect $8,000-10,000 a year for some piece of software one or two of your staff are going to use, and then if you ask them to add SAML SSO to it they tell you that's another $2,000 a year... It's insane. It's absolutely insane.
@phil_stevens @mattblaze Honestly I feel like in some ways we're just going to have to let the cloud continue to bend over companies until they discover you can run their six figure platform with some open source code on a Raspberry Pi for $100, before people start flipping back.
The market has […]
@arclight @jannem I get a very big kick out of the SCADA screens for the water systems. I've never seen so accurate a real world software representation in a video game ever.
@jannem @arclight INFRA is an incredibly good game, though I do occasionally fall back to guides to progress. One of the things I find absolutely incredible is how *accurate* the infrastructure is. They did their research.
@arclight I just started working through INFRA recently. I picked up Obenseuer but don't want to spoil the former game for myself yet. :D
@virtualbri It kinda seems like the author of The Art of the Deal kinda sucks at said art.
@adamparkhomenko.bsky.social Oh no, what did he do now?
Weirdest thing: Someone taking their shoes off and putting their bare feet on the floor of a Chicago commuter train. Why not just lick the floor while you're at it?
We recently updated our bot policy on toot.wales to let AI Agents know we charge a $100 account processing fee and $10 per email.
Here's an email I got from one of them.
Next up will be reminding them to read the policy BEFORE creating an account, and that they […]
One of the things I am absolutely abhorrent about is license checks in missions critical OT software. There's no reason you can't just bill... or sue... someone for a license issue. Breaking the software is incredibly harmful, and in a situation like a backup and recovery scenario, now you have […]
