Common Darter basking in the sun in Lambeth SE1 at lunchtime today. It has kept me company the whole time, occasionally flitting around the bench @britishdragonflies.bsky.social
The dragonfly season is not over yet! Red-veined Darter emerging 22 Sept at E Devon Beaver pond. Will this generation migrate back south, as Painted Lady does? @britishdragonflies.bsky.social

Had fun trying to capture this Southern Hawker in flight. It was extremely inquisitive and came within arm's length - which is no good when you have a 600mm lens!

Lots of Willow Emerald laying eggs into the stems of Grey Willow tonight despite a completely dried out pond. The female cuts tiny slits into the stem and deposits her eggs inside. Just need some rain now for the gamble to pay off! #Dragonflies #Wildlife #Ecology @britishdragonflies.bsky.social
Common Darter with shadow. Several still around and ovipositing in the pond.

Coombe Hill Meadows Glos. today - 20+ Migrant Hawker (one pair being harassed by a Willow Emerald Damselfly), unfortunately one of the females was caught and eaten by a Moorhen! There were at least 15 Willow Emerald Damselfly including at least two teneral. @britishdragonflies.bsky.social
It's tricky from this angle but with the eye of faith I think I can see a black "moustache" line along the top of the face but not down the side, which would suggest Common Darter rather than Vagrant. Vagrant does appear in UK field guides but is extremely unlikely here.
π Great Fen β dragonflies on the up?
