4. A new @narjournal.bsky.social paper from senior author @danyarango.bsky.social that revealed a transcript- and site-specific inhibitory role for 2'-O-methylation in translation initiation.

ACS supported this work through co-author Dr. Yang Yi's Research Scholar Grant.

Kuddos to Adam Suh, Stephanie Mou and all other co-authors and collaborators!

This RNA modification hides an upstream start codon from recognition, inducing leaky scanning, and allowing initiation at a downstream site. 2’O methylaion is thus a regulator of start codon selection and uORF expression in human transcriptomes.

Glad to share this work in its final form! We report that 2’O-methylation is a strong and site-specific inhibitor of translational initiation.

Four letters. That's the difference between a suppressor tRNA that barely registers and one that restores full-length dystrophin. Nobody had ever restored full-length dystrophin in Duchenne. Not once. Until today. Our paper is out in Science Advances.
