So we fly a pride flag in our front yard in a very conservative neighborhood and it’s been there for the last few years. Someone put this in our mailbox and my goodness…

In Austria, working from home is not necessarily a tool for work-family balance. Its increase was greatest among childless women, which can largely be attributed to their characteristics: they more likely hold higher-status positions, have higher education, work full-time and live in urban areas.

Who works from home now compared with before the pandemic? The study shows that working from home increased more among women than men. A key factor was the particularly strong rise among female clerical support workers.

Finally a slide about the measurements in different types of public transit. I am not surprised nowadays anymore as I've seen the data for a long time, but I initially expected it all to be higher. That trains - which open doors less often than city busses or trams - have higher values makes sense.

Slide titled "One regional train journey in four is above 1,200 ppm". Horizontal box plots of average CO₂ per journey in ppm for six modes of public transport, line-weighted, with dashed lines at 800 ppm (good up to here) and 1,400 ppm (unhealthy above).
Median and 90th percentile per mode:
Regional trains (1,273 journeys, 347 lines): about 930 and 1,457.
Long-distance trains (463 journeys, 106 lines): about 1,000 and 1,410.
S-Bahn (508 journeys, 109 lines): about 830 and 1,296.
Metro (1,731 journeys, 131 lines): about 795 and 1,162.
Bus (1,115 journeys, 347 lines): about 760 and 1,305.
Tram (1,424 journeys, 219 lines): about 745 and 1,097.
Long-distance trains have the highest median, regional trains the worst quarter, and 13% of their journeys average above 1,400 ppm. Buses have a wide spread, with one journey in twenty above 1,500 ppm. Nine in ten journeys stay below about 1,150 ppm on the metro and about 1,100 ppm on trams.

I've seen similar patterns as the measurement to the right (maybe not as extreme) in my measurements when taking the sensor from a well-ventilated area in a cafe or shop to the toilets, which often have shockingly bad ventilation.

a reminder for those who want to participate in our community measurement day tomorrow ;). As usual I am bad with deadlines in this side project so the new website and the report aren't ready yet in the quality I want. - but I'll put a few previews in the thread.

Image titled "Saturday - October 10.
Community Measurement Day
Autumn Edition". Why and How explained on the next images Photo: Photo with tile text: Saturday - October 10th. The Photo shows a CO2-Monitor on a ledge in the Main Station of Leipzig with a value of 569ppm.

One of several events from last year I had forgotten about but seen today in the World Press Photo exhibition: Government brutality in Favelas in Rio de Janeiro in October 2025. Fotos: Eduardo Anizelli

Two framed photographs. Top: a bird's-eye view of a busy street of which one side is lined with dead bodies. Bottom: a cleaning crew in bright orange and blue work clothes are cleaning the street with water hoses, washing away blood according to the picture description.

Sontag writes: "Let the atrocious images haunt us. Even if they are only tokens, and cannot possibly encompass most of the reality to which they refer, they still perform a vital function. The images say: This is what human beings are capable of doing (...). Don't forget."

Accidentally finished the perfect book right before visiting this year's World Press Photo Exhibition: Susan Sontag's "Regarding the Pain of Others". An essay on pictures of war and suffering and us looking at them.

Penguin edition of the book "Regarding the Pain of Others" with a black and white picture on the cover of a soldier staring anxiously ahead.

Administrative data collected on households, marriages and registered partnerships, income taxes and births for Austria were the basis for my recent Working Paper: "Demographic and socio-economic profile of same-sex families in Austria"

Just tried it as well and it seems like every single person they name in comparisons is a man? I'm not a political scientist but to me it seems to miss feminist positions as outcomes.

I know I'm not the only late diagnosed person with ADHD suddenly recognizing ADHD traits in other people. My newest find: Ariadne Oliver in Agatha Christie crime novels. I've always liked her 'quirky' character and now I see why.

Brought some very fitting reading material with me to London: Dan Hicks' book The Brutish Museum on the looting of the Benin Bronzes, the minimizing of their brutal theft by british colonial officers and the continuing colonial structures keeping these sacred artworks in European museums.

The book "The Brutish Museum" with a bronze head with a long pointy headpiece on the cover, photographed in the British Museum courtyard.A wooden door with intricate 3D carvings showing as the main motive the Yoruba leader on recieving a white colonial representative who is carried in a sling by two figures. Books on stolen artefacts names Loot and Plunder in the British Museum bookshop. One of the Benin bronzes to be returned to Nigeria, still in the British Museum: a plate with a figure in regal Benin dress holding a cat in each hand
