"Further restricting access to visas will not stop refugees from fleeing Eritrea, it will simply force more of them to make dangerous journeys" - well said @freedomfromtorture.bsky.social
Removing visas doesn't stop people being in danger. It just makes it more dangerous for them to reach safety.

❌️ STOP expanding immigration detention ❌️

Thousands more beds in immigration detention means thousands more people suffering, thousands more communities ripped apart, millions more pounds wasted on cruel detention.

Tell the Government to end expansion plans 👇️

Pound Shop Trump strikes again. How will he fill up prisons with charity workers?

These charities run food banks, support rough sleepers, help families in crisis. Threatening to prosecute them endangers the lives of their staff, service users, & volunteers.

Thanks to Olivia and Women for Refugee Women for their incredibly important research. The work ban is a gendered issue: it puts women at risk.
Anyone who cares about the safety of women and girls should be calling for an end to the harmful work ban, now.

The government plans to add 1,000 immigration detention spaces at Haslar and Campsfield. That means more raids, more arrests and more families torn apart.

Sign the petition.
Stop expanding detention.
No more migrant prisons.
These walls must fall.

‼️ Yesterday Reform UK claimed they’d close the asylum system for five years. This is headline grabbing, dangerous dog whistling. Every day in our work, we meet women who have sought safety in the UK to escape some of the most extreme forms of persecution and gender-based violence. 1/🧵

This blueprint points the way towards an asylum system that works better for all of us. It comes from more than 200 refugee charities - actual experts, with real experience, who know what's gone wrong and how to fix it. So let's talk about that.

@asylummatters.bsky.socialOct 12, 2026, 10:39 AM

Another political party is talking about banning asylum. Again. Even after seeing how spectacularly it failed when Conservatives tried it four years ago. But we don't want to talk about that. Instead of meaningless clickbait, let's focus on what might actually work: a real plan, based on evidence:

🚨Just 200 people needed to reach the target!! 🚨

⏰️ We need you to sign before Monday to force a formal response from a government that has tried to sneak in this cruel policy.

Tell them we're paying attention! Say no to earned settlement. 🚮

Andy Burnham is under pressure over earned settlement - let's show him that putting lives on hold, trapping kids in poverty and devastating our NHS and social care systems isn't the way to win confidence in his new Government.

Jailing a 19-year-old who fled terrifying violence in South Sudan for two years won't 'stop the boats' or 'smash the gangs'. Our leaders are criminalising vulnerable people who have no other choice - they should be ashamed. There's only one way to stop dangerous journeys: safe routes.

Labour says it wants to reduce child poverty. So why is it pursuing immigration reforms projected to leave 90,000 more children in poverty?

No concessions can save these reforms. Tell Burnham to bin them.

Women’s safety is finally being acknowledged, but this must come with an understanding that safe routes are the ONLY alternative to these dangerous journeys. The proposed routes don’t go far enough: they should be expanded and family reunion reinstated.

Charities have so much expertise and wisdom to share - and they want to share it! A Government that wants to be guided by expertise should be working with the charity sector, not against it. Proud to be part of this call to Andy Burnham's new Government to work with us to build a better Britain.

🖊️ “The campaigners amongst us – often raising flags about the risk of serious individual or societal harms – are used to warm words but slow action from Whitehall.” We're proud to join 50 organisations calling on the Government to draw on civil society's expertise and experience.

The Labour Party Conference this year was different. The message of ‘hope again’ was beaming from every screen.

But, there was one glaring omission: migrant care workers.

Every death in our Channel could be prevented. The three people who died trying to reach safety yesterday were betrayed by politicians, who've chosen to ignore the evidence and prioritise deadly hostility over saving lives. But this tragedy doesn't have to be repeated. Safe routes save lives.

Headline reads "Three more people killed by our borders. One of them was a child." over a choppy sea background, with a "Fight for Asylum Rights" badge and a Sky News caption reporting two women and a child died crossing the English Channel.
