I believe it started because the Real Point Flag hated Stay Gold during breeding and would kick him. In JP they treated it not as abusive but more of a weird dynamic of Point Flag being the one wearing pants in the family. The abuse part is Americans flanderizing it beyond healthy.

Even now I try to direct people to Dynasty Reader for the Fan works that get put out and even give recommended old stuff. It's kind of why it integrates a lot with other franchises so well due to that Open Sourced Nature. Kind of like TF2 and the videos made even today.
