E. McGregor’s What Fills Your House Like Smoke is a very good collection of poems about mourning and grief. I highly recommend it: www.mcnallyrobinson.com/978177187252...

I got page proofs for my forthcoming article on Black Love and Wake Work in David Chariandy’s Brother. The article is being published by ESC, a journal I have absolutely loved since grad school.
In today’s exciting bookmail, our departmental reading room has just acquired my awesome friend and colleague @jamieparis.bsky.social ’s latest book! Read it, order it for your library, and attend this afternoon’s online launch!
The jury cited Carson for “her bold and inventive oeuvre that, in playful dialogue with the classical tradition, has created new forms for contemporary literature.” Read the full story here: https://bit.ly/47rJEbP
I’m sorry, but the pneumatic plague is back? This timeline is jumping all the sharks
Thanks! I’m really proud of this little article
My article on Black Love and Mourning in David Chariandy’s Brother was just accepted by ESC!

I think I may have some extra PDA money by 2030 🤣. Thanks for letting me know about a really cool policy
We should be compensated!
I never realized that implementing the four laws of robotics would be this difficult. I think someone needs to write a prequel to I, Robot just outlining the debates over the rules. How many hundreds of people had to die before companies agreed to the no murder robots rule?
So much of being an academic is learning how to take a loss. I just found out that my SAA seminar was canceled due to low enrolment. It sucks and I’m devastated. It is going to hurt for a few days. Soon, hopefully, it will hurt less and I will be happy I put myself out there. Growth comes from pain
This book looks incredible. I hope you do an event in Winnipeg. I would love to get your thoughts on Ducks
I think that is a smart reframing. As long as we’re clear with people when we hire them that there is a kind of term limit and we give people who are still young a chance to renew their contracts if they say hit 25 years of service at 60.
And every day there is more Fresh AI Hell. What's worse than polluting the information ecosystem with synthetic text dressed up to look like news? Dressing it up further as the work of fake Indigenous journalists:
On October 8th, I am doing a virtual book launch with Haley Cotter, sponsored by the University of Alabama. Please consider joining us for what should be an interesting discussion and spreading the word about the book launch within your networks
Has there been any consultation or discussion with Indigenous Peoples about the implications of Canada becoming an associate member of the European Union? I don’t know why but, given the history of Europe, I can’t imagine the Eurozone has strong protections for Indigenous rights
