It would! You could do it as a persuasion roll after the choice or choose a wording that accepts the quest but includes say "it will cost you" or an "if we have time".

Almost immediate would be an accumulation of good deeds over the course of act 1. Acting a hero or being selfless comes across as a waste of his very expensive time and low enough disapproval results in his departure and the death of your favorite party member. Keep him happy. Be mean occasionally
