We know the Education Department's research arm spent $180M in roughly two weeks. We don't quite know how but at least one grantee recently received 2 years of funding for an existing project at once.

The Institute of Education Sciences has 28 days to spend $180 million--a quarter of its annual budget--to avoid violating the Impoundment Control Act I'm placing my bets on most of this money getting spent in legally questionable ways that are not consistent with congressional intent

New: With one month left in the fiscal year, the Education Department's research arm has to spend 24% of its annual budget.

By late August in pre-Trump 2.0 years, that figure was never higher than 10%.

In a typical year, the Education Department's Office for Civil Rights would have spent two-thirds of its budget by June 30.

This year, by June 30, half the annual budget remained unspent.
