Here's some evidence that all my bird call outs about cormorants are real. Today as we watched this one, another one flew in for a water landing and then spooked a goose by popping up right behind it after a dive.

This might be a juvenile double-crested cormorant? […]

A cormorant on the shore of a lake. The view is from the back of the bird. It is looking left. Its beak is yellow and the feathers are brownish-black.

Met a group of six long-tailed tits two days ago when the sun was out. I always hear them before I see them. And their sound, the tsirr tsirr, makes me smile.

A small white fluffy bird with a very long dark tail, a small black beak and a dark peppercorn eye is perched on a naked branch, the sky in the background is very blue.

After working with Zulu potter, Jabulile Nala from South Africa, I began to wonder why #ceramics has become an expensive hobby requiring extensive tools and equipment when originally, it was just earth and fire which are free. I created this workshop series for those who are interested in clay […]

Good morning to all, but most especially to this pair of northern flickers doing a courtship dance in my neighbor’s tree, and the mockingbird who came over to see what all the fuss was about.

#Pittsbirds #backyardbirding #birds #birdsofmastodon

Two roughly American-robin-sized northern flickers sit in a tree, partially obscured by twigs. They both have brown-and-black striped backs, black-spotted undersides, black bibs, buff faces, and red caps.A ruffled northern mockingbird sits on a branch to the left of one of the northern flickers from the previous shot. It seems very intent about something, while the flicker seems mostly unconcerned.

I have loads of left over DMC embroidery thread from past cross stitch projects, so I made a tiny little tool that lets you list all your threads and it will provide you with a palette file for loading into your favourite pixel art editor. This way you can make […]

I've volunteered to run a #VisibleMending workshop at church in a couple weeks, with a particular focus on #darning socks. Even if no one ends up picking this up as a hobby, I should at least get a few more repaired socks out of this. 😆

Which Quetzal is right for you?

Here's my Day 3 of the Ink-Birdtober challenge. The 3 October Birdtober prompt is the Resplendent Quetzal and the Inktober prompt is Miniature.

My ink drawing for Birdtober of the Resplendent Quetzal. On the left is the adult male, labelled as Quetzal Ultra, "Innovative design for ultimate resplendence". Next is the female, less colourful and without the silly, long tail feathers. She's the Quetzal Pro, "Strength. Beauty. Replendent.". Third is a fluffy little brown juvenile, recently fledged. They're Quetzal Air, "Say hello to Quetzal". Last is the small Quetzal egg. This is Quetzal Mini, "The smallest Quetzal ever with Pro resplendence inside".

Pied Avocet Trying to Find Some Food

This was one of many close by at Titchwell March, and one of the hides when we were trying to spot the rare Spotted Crake. It did show, but the nice photos are from other birds, such as this one.

Not volunteering this week but both of us are running #parkrun today at #Waverley Lakes, (border of #Rotherham / #Sheffield).

I was marshalling last week at the turn around halfway point and here's a pic of the set up that I forgot to share.

Three smaller cones lead to a larger cone where there are two signs. One says "You're half way there!" with an image of Bon Jovi and the other says "Turn around!" with an image of Bonnie Tyler
