How absurd can a return-to-office get after receiving an anonymous note?
Read Spencer Goble‘s new fiction, “Subordinate,” in The Blowout’s latest issue UNDER.
🖋️The night was black and empty except for us. A headlight gently painted the coral of a sneaker out of the grayscale before it slid past our position. We dared anyone to say something. We had all the comebacks, and tonight we had magic eggs.✒️ New story out in the Blowout Mag's second issue, UNDER:
"There isn’t an open street cut or sidewalk ripped up that doesn’t cause me to stop to observe. I invite you to take a look. You’ll be met with a maze crossed with a puzzle and it’s an absolute mess. Yet each part functions as part of a system that keeps the city moving in silent, reliable fashion."
"The underworld is not a physical place. It’s the bottom of the ocean, the basement in a blackout, the void in space that scientists study. It’s the absence of light that’s fled, that’s been swallowed wholly by grief."
Read take 2 by Danielle de Granville in the UNDER issue:
wisdom spreads easiest when it’s very dark
in silence, when our chests are gently strained by dreams
debris of ships are valuable landmarks
when the sunshine wakes us on the higher seas
—from Dario Cvencek's DARK NIGHT OF THE SOUL

We hope you stay a while. As always, art is on the walls and writers have the floor.
After we surface for air, time and history will fold in on themselves, leaving you to determine what fossils remain in the soil. The night will end with eggs and ample mischief.
Then, water guides a descent into the depths of grief and deceit, only for the pull of family ties to break us.
The night opens with curiosity, an openness toward a nonuniform aesthetic appreciation. Once the table’s set, the puddles, trains, bedroom doors and concrete walls, that specific special energy of the city, awaits.
We design each issue of The Blowout to feel like a long night at a good friend’s apartment, mingling with new minds, listening to voices filled with pride. Go ahead, lose track of time.
Welcome in. Let me grab your coat. You can pull up a seat and get comfortable. Inside, a journey through the minds and hearts of our contributors has been curated for your, yes, your attention. Visual art and photography will set and reset the mood among the prose and poetry.
TOMORROW - 11 AM ET

Here is an excerpt from my upcoming short story, "Because of the Colors. It's a favorite story of mine about youthful rebellion and magic. I hope you'll enjoy reading it as much as I did crafting it🎨✒️
✒️Brutal summer temperatures aside, humans love heat: warmth, radiance, glow. Like gravity, it’s a fundamental yet invisible force. Heat is a sort of everyday magic.🖋️
Hold on to that feeling a brief moment this autumn.
