A few ideas on chapter breaks here. @emmadarwinwriter.bsky.social has good advice for writing multiple POVs too. Condensed rule of thumb is to bring readers out of one into something more neutral and then direct them into the other.

"If envy of apparent success can really mess with your creative process, confidence and judgement." So how do you process other writers’ success - in sales, visibility or literary esteem - and find your own creative balance and harmony?

You’ve got the story sorted out, the writing is trundling along, but too often you come on a section that you or your beta-readers, or both, know is a bit - or very - meh.

Lovely news. @persephonebooks is opening a London shop in the building that was Pollock’s Toy Museum. I had a Saturday job there in the toyshop–Marguerite Fawdry, toy history guru, cooked lunch in the basement and Barry the toy theatre expert did wonderful shows upstairs. Persephone the perfect fit!

Apparently - I've never pursued them - that they can organise that book-group promo, or that festival, or that publishing contract, in return for a modest fee...

Do you plan and draft in chapters from the beginning? Find out where they go as you write? Let your editor put them in?
Chapter breaks are fundamental to the reader’s experience - which means they’re powerful tools and worth getting in the right place: buff.ly/ouoKjdv

Whether you’ve got eight files all called ‘Final’, ten boxes of notes, or twenty carrier-bags of photocopies, it’s horribly easy for your work on a novel or creative non-fiction to sprawl into chaos. Itchy Bitesized 32 is about about how to tame your draft and get back in control:
