Wonderful Obit for Anna Picard - a close family friend, one of many, many people who encourage and in part inspired my love of music and my committment to writing. She will be missed.

You can hear more tributes to #ChoralEvensong100 in these splendid BBCRadio3 Essay programmes presented by @matthewbannister.bsky.social. Commencing with Dean Abi Thompson. Great testimonies to the powers & presence of church & cathedral choirs across the UK

Who's this cherub? Why, it's radio's Matthew Bannister aka former Head Chorister at Sheffield Cathedral (& sometime verger). Join him at 2145 on BBC Radio3 (5-9 October) as he marks 100 years of Choral Evensong on BBC Radio and heads "Towards Evensong" with the people that make this service happen.

So. Many. Enemies. I bought a replica of a Gaudier Brzeska little sculpture in Kettles Yard the other day and I was sure he had intended it as a weapon. But it’s actually a duck. Which is probably for the best.

though now i look it up, I’m feeling awkward as the award is more very dense resin than, er, an actual hammer (cultural history FAIL)
