He also named fact-checking directly. Europe needs trusted third parties, fact-checking structures, that restore the facts so people can weigh them against the theories they are exposed to. That requires transparency of algorithms.

Macron's answer on enforcement was one word: "No." He said the core of the fight now is applying the rules Europe already has, and holding platforms accountable. “We must use the DSA much more, much faster, much harder. We will keep up the pressure”, he added.

She pointed to what fact-checkers see every day: platforms disregarding their own community guidelines, retreating from the fight against misinformation and disregarding information integrity.
