“Thence I proceeded to Hull-Street, and up the steps to that fascinating necropolis which thro’ some singular fate I had never before seen—the Copp’s Hill Burying Ground. Here are interr’d some of the most illustrious Colonial dead of the Province, including the Mathers […].”
...the atmosphere of his work, and the horror emanating from it fascinated the author of “Dagon”. Significantly, during his wanderings through Boston in 1923, Lovecraft even visited Cotton Mather’s grave. In another letter to Galpin and Long from 1923, he wrote:
Mather believed that devils and witches genuinely intended to destroy, through witchcraft, the Puritan colony he loved. Although Lovecraft himself, as a rationalist, did not believe in the existence of magic, the visions conjured up by Mather...
It was in this very book that this otherwise learned man, an important figure in the history of New England, irrationally defended not only the legitimacy of prosecuting the witches of Salem, but above all his own involvement in this dreadful process.
#Lovecraft was fascinated by the works of the Puritan theologian and historian Cotton Mather. He mentions him in such works as “The Dreams in the Witch House”, and “Pickman’s Model”, where he also names a specific and highly unsettling work by Mather, “Wonders of the Invisible World”. 🧵

Early character concept for Pool of Madness. No language models were prompted or harmed in the making of this sketch.
⚠️ warning: this pool game clip contains a jump scare
(as well as tentacles, blood, guns, volcanoes and destruction)
In your letters you often ask: "How did you make this void horror move so realistically?"
We used an ancient indie mocap technique, passed down through generations of underfunded developers. See the vid 🦑
We are available for mocap consultations btw.

"I recall’d a witchcraft judge (Major Bartholomew Gedney) in mine own maternal ancestry, and thought of certain imprecations of the dead in fact and fiction. . . . . […] And at that moment, as God is my judge, I heard faintly but distinctly the clanking of chains in the wind . . . "
“[…] Gallows-Hill is not a nice place to visit at night. […] And I was alone on that hill in that sepulchral place, where the allies of the devil had swung . . . and swing . . . and hurled out curses on their executioners and their descendants.“
