Dactylitis occurs when sickled RBCs obstruct blood flow in the small bones of the hands and feet, causing vaso-occlusion and ischemia. 👀 Look for painful, swollen, warm hands or feet. Infants may present with fussiness, decreased movement, or refusal to bear weight.
