🎨 On Monday, I met charities, artists, & businesses affected by proposed closures at St Margaret's House incl. many Leith residents. Tomorrow, I was hoping to present this Emergency Motion to instigate Council assistance. North East Edinburgh benefits greatly from the orgs based in London Road.

St Mark's Path Bridge update from @jackrmcaldwell.bsky.social: Council officers are now preparing a Councillors' briefing to go out on week beginning 12 October. It will be shareable, so Jack will send it on as soon as. @edi.bike, @spurtle.bsky.social, @robbieainsworth.bsky.social

My understanding is it's a temp repair while Dalmeny St junction gets a specific review due to traffic being higher than spec of a cont. footway (my pref is a zebra crossing which does the same thing). However I emailed officers last week to request confirmation of that guess/ update on that review.

Big question: there are over 60 policies (excluding 100s of site-specific principles identified) from affordable housing numbers expected to urban drainage requirements, so it's not really "implemented" but a rule book that new applications should be measured against.

πŸ— Edinburgh Council's CityPlan 2040 'Call for Ideas' closes tomorrow.

CEC want to know what services & public spaces (ie GPs & parks?) are missing from our communities, what types of buildings should be protected, & what types of construction should happen where www.edinburgh.gov.uk/local-develo...

If funding is an issue, then the Council can start design-work before the budget-setting process in February. That is part of our discussions with Council officers. Will hopefully be able to post more here shortly. 3/3

I've been advised by Council officers that it is likely a full replacement bridge will be needed. Those same officers are aiming to get a formal update to the Culture & Communities committee on 8 Oct. @sannedd.bsky.social & I remain clear. The reopening cannot be kicked into the long grass. 2/3

Thank you to everyone who got in touch about the frustrating closure of the vital bridge at St Mark's Park. This is a lifeline route for the community on both sides and has massive impacts on access to the park, walking, cycling, the school & local businesses 1/3

A really fab #DoorsOpenDay across Canonmills, Leith & Easter Road meeting lots of people - thanks Canonmills Baptist Church, OOTB Drill Hall, & Norton Park Business Centre!

Every building who opened their doors today plays a huge part in Leith Walk ward's heritage & its future as a welcoming place.

I've not as the deadline day for comments is 2nd October, the department will then be considering the responses.

Thanks all who wrote in re the importance of the London Road traffic islands. Designs look v positive as it’s important for proper conservation materials & cycle lanes to have a smooth surface. But the islands must stay to allow pedestrians to cross.

Farcical for peds & cyclists to learn, in response to my Cllr Q, that no conflict monitoring took place on Leith Walk (esp bus stops), despite a statement implying there was.

How can anyone have confidence CEC is taking Leith Walk #ActiveTravel seriously?

Thanks for tagging me in. I've reported that bin on Logie Green Road a few times in the past too (it was only added to webforms.edinburgh.gov.uk/site/portal/...) fairly recently since installation too. I'll ask what the schedule is here.

@jackrmcaldwell.bsky.socialSep 18, 2026, 2:30 PM

I'm afraid not. The closure report is due in November now so am hoping to get an update from Council officers before then as the original plan was for contractors to finish it before the August works embargo.
