He then discussed the Anglo-American Treaty of Peace & Independence that Benjamin Franklin, John Adams & John Jay, signed in Paris on September 3, 1783. As the history of the United States’ founding treaty shows, finding peace turned out to be at least as difficult and transformative as making war.

Day Three -Joanne Goodman Lecture - In the Declaration’s conclusion, Congress promised that Americans would treat the British as they did the rest of mankind: “enemies in war, in peace friends.” In his final lecture, Professor Gould started with the peace that Americans hoped to secure in 1776.

Day Two of the Joanne Goodman Lectures was well received by a diverse audience of undergraduate, graduates, faculty and the Western community. Prof. Gould spoke on the various unions with which Americans hoped to secure the Revolution’s internal and external goals.

Today, Sept 30, we observe National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (#NDTR). Established as an official holiday in 2021 in response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action, NDTR honours the children who never made it home and the Survivors of residential schools.

Today is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. First observed in 2013 as Orange Shirt Day, it is a day for public commemoration, learning and reflection on the history and intergenerational trauma of the Residential School System in Canada.
