None I’m afraid! While I do love foraging I just don’t trust myself to accurately identify most fungi - the main ones I can definitely identify on sight are the 100% toxic ones! 😂🍄🤷🏻‍♀️

Today I visited Wordsworth Grasmere with my MA students to explore the manuscript development of Wordsworth’s great autobiographical poem, ‘The Prelude’. Fascinating to experience the complex process of creation and revision which went in to the making of this key Romantic text 📚

An annual project inspired by Beatrix Potter’s mycological studies: a ‘gathering’ of all the species of fungi I came across over a two week period (mainly from the shores of Rydal and Windermere) 🍄🍄‍🟫🍄

Thank you so much, Penny!
It would never have happened without the impetus of the wonderful MA in "Literature, Romanticism & the English Lake District" and your support and encouragement

After last night’s wonderful event, celebrating the Grasmere Dialect Plays, I woke up in my lovely little room at Brathay Hall to golden October sunshine. Took myself off on a Beatrix Potter-inspired lakeside & woodland walk at Wray Castle - a perfect finale to a very special and joyous weekend 🍂☀️📚🍄

A joyous & historic evening of words & music from the Grasmere Dialect Plays, which came home to Grasmere Village Hall for the first time in nearly a century. Congratulations to @suewilkinson.bsky.social for putting together this celebration of a vital part of Lakeland cultural history 📚🍂

A packed lecture theatre for a wonderful first talk in this year’s Cultural Landscapes event series given by Dean Hines. Dean explored ideas of sublimity & perspective in J. M. W. Turner’s extraordinary paintings of the Lake District dating from his 1797 visit and beyond 🎨🍃

A glorious post-open-day early October walk with a low afternoon sun shafting through the trees, making shadow patterns on the fells, and illuminating fallen leaves and a passing butterfly wing 🍂

Very much enjoying listening again to these seasonally-themed Jane Austen podcasts. Today’s commuting treat was the October episode, which includes references to Austen reading both Southey and Radcliffe: www.buzzsprout.com/2434395/epis... 📚🍂

Taking my MA students to see Beatrix Potter’s extraordinary mycological watercolours at The Armitt Museum & Library is always a highlight of the year but today’s visit was extra special as I was also able to take them on a curator’s tour of my book tie-in exhibition, ‘An A-Z of Beatrix Potter’ 📚🍄🍃

Always a joy to attend a meeting at Allan Bank in Grasmere, once the home (briefly) of the Wordsworths and subsequently of Hardwicke Rawnsley, co-founder of the National Trust #CulturalLandscapes 📚🍂

A little annual ritual: gathering some last offerings from the garden which will gradually dry out over the next few weeks and remain on the hall table until it is time to decorate the house with festive greenery and berries 🍂
