Teacher curiosity goes, too, with constrained curriculum. AND, this stance has devalued teacher expertise by outsourcing it to 'standardized' and 'objective' tests. Root cause of so much that's wrong with education is the very test that purports to tell us students and schools are failing.

A6: This looks like policy advocacy and review as well as reaching out to and sharing multilingual teaching resources and volunteering with the local educators in the surrounding districts. I am always trying to look for opportunities to do both. (2/2) #literacies

A6: I am really looking forward to learning from what everyone shares. For me, I try to think about what I can do to dedicate energy to long-term, systemic changes as well as smaller scale, short-term changes. (1/2) #literacies

Thank you so much for sharing. As we are looking at (finally) building dual language programs in Arkansas, I will ensure to voice this reality as often as I can. #literacies

A5: ...leverage Marshallese as much as possible; using and creating any resources I could get my hands on (or that students could create) to ensure Marshallese was represented just as much... The manuscript is in the works, so stay tuned (lol!) (2/2) #literacies

A5: This became a HUGE consideration while working with @faythebeauch.bsky.social in my own second-grade #literacies classroom. As a teacher, the best thing for me was to notice the lack of Marshallese resources and language embedded opportunities in order to... (1/2)

Thank you so much! It certainly makes me all the more inspired by my multilingual students as they navigate the cultural and languaging practices on top of it all! 💛

A4: At the heart of many different communities, I see a communal connection around their indigenous languages. A shared, cultural dedication to use what they can, when they can, especially in more personal spaces that are not as inundated with White structures. A preservation. #literacies

A4: I have learned so much from the Marshallese & Cherokee educators, students, & community members I am so fortunate to work with in how to tackle this. There's SO MUCH nuance, so much that I do not know. I do not want to misrepresent their approaches, but a few #literacies examples include...(1/2)

My bilingual parenting requires me to grapple with these issues and ensure that my child, as a racialized emergent bilingual, understands that bilingualism is a matter of the heart but also a resistant practice in the face of English superiority in the U.S. #literacies

Would absolutely LOVE to hear more about how you are thinking of borders 👀 #literacies

A3: I am so fortunate to work with some AMAZING educators that are subverting this harmful, national rhetoric. If my research position can, in any way, spotlight the wonderful resistance #literacies work of these educators, I want to ensure I continue pursuing it.

A2: Love this! It reminds me how the communities, places, and spaces are such a major part of my own personhood & the identities I hold. Off the top of my head: mid-Southern, education, female friendships, learner, Whiteness (always something to critically reflect on), and so many more. #literacies

A1: I am a proud multilingual. I move fluidly move back and forth from English, Spanish, Spanglish in my life as a mom, scholar, and community member. I am also challenging myself to learn Maya Yucateco, which has been fun, but challenging! #literacies

We are so excited to work with you this year! We appreciate you!

A1: Trying to navigate my languaging shifts well while simultaneously continuing to read the sociopolitical moves interactionally made by others has become frustratingly difficult for my PTSD brain. I am very much still figuring out my new capacities. (3/3) #literacies

A1: Whether I am wife, friend, student, teacher, peer, subordinate, authority, etc. (or, more often, some combination), the ways I use and interpret language shift. This used to feel as natural as breathing, however... #literacies (2/3)

A1: My languaging practices have felt particularly tied to whatever role I am in, particularly as of late. The way I make meaning has felt so intimately tied to the position I am in (or placed in) in a given interaction... #literacies (1/3)

Oops, forgot my #literacies (don't be like me, everyone! Haha!)
