I’m sitting on the bench in the field. A few fluffy clouds right above the Sonoma Mountains. A slight breeze. 21C/70F. I’m throwing balls for Lord Byron. Charlotte is digging a hole. Jane is wandering. Birds are singing behind me. A butterfly just flitted past. I’m going to sit here and relax a bit.

I spent an hour yesterday going over the Calif ballot and googling supporters and detractors and reading up at the League Of Women voters. I have a bit of thinking to do about one of the propositions, but I will probably fill out my ballot today and get it dropped off.

Red Shouldered hawks visiting the water container and having a bath.

Daytime trail cam photo of two red shouldered hawks (Buteo lineages). To the bottom mid right one hawk has landed on the corner edge of a black water container. Its wings are still up and it is looking just slightly to the left. To the mid upper left a second hawk is coming in for a landing. Its tail is fanned out and its wings are fully spread and curved slightly inward since it's putting on the brakes. The birds have red chests and black and white barred tail feathers. There is red along the tops of the wings. The surroundings are underneath a large oak (unseen but providing shade) with short dry brown grass and in the background a huge Coast Live oak and a fallen one.

One of them is in the container with its back to the camera with wings spread low and in the water as it hunkers down to bathe. The other is perched on the far corner waiting its turn. Its wings are closed and its red chest is readily apparent. Surroundings are beneath a large oak (unseen but providing shade) with short dry brown grass and in the background a huge Coast Live oak and a fallen one.

Day time trail cam photo of a mature red fox (vulpes vulpes) at the left facing sideways one paw on the edge of a black water container. It is looking to the right but is obviously about to have a drink. Its ears are pointing straight up, bushy tail is down. It's head to mid shoulders is red fading to speckled gray. The surroundings are underneath a large oak with short brown grass. A huge oak is in the background and the fallen oak behind that.

Good morning from NorCal. I got the paper under a dark and starry sky. I sipped my strong coffee along the way. 7C/45F with a high of 21C/69F. Great Horned owls hooted in the distance as I walked. Back at the house I turned off the flashlight and admired the stars. Have the best day ever!

Do not mess with the squirrels here

Daytime Wildlife cam photo of a squirrel leaping toward the camera. It is just about vertical, facing the camera. Its feet maybe a quarter inch off the ground. Its front legs are spread. Its bushy tail behind it makes its chest look wider than it is. Its expression is a mix of “I’m a fuck you up” and who do you think you are. The near background is short brown grass with a water container behind. In the further distance is the fallen oak tree.

I finished my coffee, got the paper, and stood on the slope listening to the owls heading to bed and songbirds awakening under a partly cloudy sky. It was lovely. Then I fed the wild birds and now I gotta go grocery shopping.
