But maybe I should do it anyway

@lavishaparab.bsky.socialOct 10, 2026, 9:18 AM

Thanks! I considered idos method, yes but I didn't want to make standard curves for all my phages if I could help it πŸ˜› Especially since they're temperate

I only realised how tiny I am when I went to the German phage conference and also more when I won that poster prize, look πŸ˜› 🀏

hello #phage pholks, any of you already have a protocol for high-through put one-step growth curves? Making any step faster/more convenient is welcome. Thanks!!!

Spotting on a big agar plate doesn't save as much time as we lose by reducing the precision/least count and then having to repeat it πŸ˜…

Definitely motivation to write this paper up, right
@ccwendling.bsky.social ? X)

Was a very fun #phage conference, plus visiting the Harnack-Haus again added to the fun. It's the best place in Germany for a conference in my opinion! Thanks SPP organisers <3

In our brand new πŸ₯³ review, @hemaa-selvakumar.bsky.social & team pull a scattered literature in phage biology into a coherent framework for scaling up to engineering complex communities. We poured our hearts into this to share challenges & future opportunities for the nextGen!

Next generation application space with systematic characterization of phage-host interaction landscapes.

Avery built an ML framework which can predict strain-level phage-host interactions from genome data alone, trained on public phage susceptibility datasets. Model performance matches existing species-specific models, can generalize to unseen phages and hosts, and guide phage-cocktail design.

Job ad: my supervisor is looking for a PhD student (biophysics/systems biology Uni Cologne, Germany). The project is on microbial evolution experiments in the context of the immune system. Details here bpsb.uni-koeln.de/open-positions Cologne is a cool city to live in and the group is nice! #mevoSky

TIL you can pause reviews for a while on the reviewer dashboard! Earlier reviews will still be active for revisions etc. πŸ˜„ Since I've always tried to review in an encouraging tone + list solutions for each of my criticisms, it takes up a lot of effort and time Is it better than refusing to review?πŸ€”

Was very very fun to visit the labs of @bkoskella.bsky.social and @tagalab.bsky.social recently at UC Berkeley. Exciting phage and community projects!! πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒ Also lovely questions on my work, makes me happy 😊

I got a seemingly-LLM-generated email from someone applying to PhDs & had a biology question. I called it out, got a 2nd seemingly LLM generated response saying you caught me! I asked to write question in their own words, got a 3rd LLM-generated response saying they're sorry they wasted my time...

Cool! And what's the white plaques then?

Great episode about recognising mistakes in your research! The guest Kate Laskowski also gives tips for undergraduate courses and research groups for improving data sleuthing and data management πŸ” We've also defined clear lab-wide folder structure and file-naming conventions @ the Wendling group 😁

Today I'm feeling thankful for all the people in my life who accept, "I replied in my head" as a valid true phenomenon. Some also say, "it's okay, I do that too." So many emails. Emails scale exponentially with the number of (active) collaborations and linearly with the no. of students I supervise πŸ˜…
