With the midterms approaching, Sean Hannity and Kayleigh McEnany at Fox News are interviewing men who claim they were sucked through portals and taken to hell where they were tortured by demons who wore capes. Then they ended up getting book deals in order to scare Americans into surrender.

Complementarian men often tell those who disagree with them, "You just want a Bible that always agrees with you." But they never seem to think it's odd that their view of the Bible always puts them in charge.

I know my subtitle is going to turn a lot of evangelicals off. But if you don't want the women of your church's worship team being sexualized on stage, you should read my book. By "extremism," I'm referring to how worship gets weaponized for dehumanization. This is one example.

Trump: “We’re gonna shove it up their ass. … They are a bunch of dumb son of a bitches.” Evangelicals: “It’s our Christian responsibility to vote for you.”

It's funny when conservative evangelicals accuse me of interpreting the Bible through my politics. In reality, I went through a spiritual healing first, which had theological consequences. Then later, I started to wonder about my politics.

If white evangelicals ever recover grief, their worship leaders are going to have to stop leaning so much into declaring certainties through celebration and start leaning more into confession and lament. 4/4

So it’s interesting, given how unwilling white evangelicals are to reflect on the harm they’ve caused especially during the Trump years, to hear Russell Moore say, “I think we’ll come back from this twisted time. ... 2/4

In every church I joined and led worship in for 20 years, I typically chose two songs of celebration, one or two songs of confession or lament, and a song of commitment. And in every church, at some point the pastors confronted me for having too much lament and not enough celebration. 1/4

It's also funny how I never once reference liberal politics, but consistently reference biblical scholarship and the perspectives of other Christians who have been harmed by empire.

And just like that, my Amazon rating took a nose dive. But if it was that bad, why'd they give me two stars? What did I do to earn that extra star?
