The last two/three Protomartyr albums are their best. Always dug em (very much) but their growth into a sumptuous Tindersticks/Psychedelic Furs/Amebix heavy noir project is a delight to behold.

Possibly the most obscure thing I’ll ever ask, but anyone know who, in his King Sunny Ade piece, Greg Tate is referencing here? “the most cryptic, discordant, and unnerving sound I’ve ever heard in my life. The drums seem to be preparing for war, the voices for a party…”
