Researchers often can't increase the size of their sample (e.g., due to research constraints). In my paper on sample size justification I discuss approaches to increase power without increasing the sample size (e.g., within designs, reducing variability) lakens.github.io/statistical_...

I'm honored to be giving the keynote at the Healthy Aging Symposium (hsph.harvard.edu/healthy-agin...) today, and reallly looking forward to the interdisciplinary conversations ("from cells to society") around healthy aging that are the goal of this meeting.
Should aging research focus on lifespan or healthspan? What is the ultimate goal of the field?
Delighted that our paper, led by David Gems, is finally out.
We argue that the idea that we should aim to extend healthspan rather than lifespan is a misguided cliché.

Are you interested in data and code sharing in Ecology and Evolution?
@eivimeycook.bsky.social and I are running a hackathon to quantify data and code availability and sharing quality across 90 society journals, and looking for people who want to be involved.
A reminder to sign up to the @sortee.bsky.social conference: 13-14th October sortee.org/upcoming/!
The advocacy committee will be running a hackathon (second event) looking at EcoEvo society journal policies and data/code availability/quality.

good morning. I strongly suspect that we don't really know (or agree) what geographic ranges are, and therefore, our estimates of how species' ranges are shifting in the Anthropocene are uninterpretable.
I wrote something about this: doi.org/10.1111/2041...
and I'll share the main findings...
If you can't make the day, there is plenty of opportunity to help asynchronously! Details to follow.
amazing!!!
Hope to see many of you there! We'd love to get lots of people helping to extract data! Led by @joelpick.bsky.social Pick and others (add your tag below!). Any questions, DM me!
