We have partnerships with really great manufacturers. We sell at-cost because our goal is to make plug-in solar accessible to anyone who truly wants it.

Hi Michael, which specific unit? We consider the microinverter the heart of the system, since that is what converts the direct current (DC) to alternating current (AC) usable by your home. You can find the product details and datasheet at www.brightsaver.org/balcony-sola...

Another quote: "The appeal of being able to make your own electricity, and for less money than you can buy it from a utility, that’s universal for Americans,” says Joshua Pearce, an electrical engineer at Western University in Ontario, Canada, who advanced the merits of plug-in solar a decade ago."

On a personal note, I've always respected and appreciated the work from Nat Geo across all facets! It's super exciting to see Bright Saver mentioned in such a wide range of outlets, with Nat Geo particularly being true to protecting Earth and documenting its beauty. - Luke | Bright Saver

Bright Saver featured in Nat Geo this AM!

"To encourage people to adopt renewable energy, Bright Saver sells plug-in systems without markups. Danz paid under $300 for a one-panel unit and affixed it with metal clips over his small, third-floor balcony."

Definitely looking at local success stories. With our shipment sent to be sent out soon, we're already planning to contact tons of members! Great idea.

Big changes coming to the Bright Saver website in the coming weeks!

Before we really begin diving in, what are some features you all would like to see within our website?
More plug-in solar knowledge, visuals, legislation resources, more clean energy products?

Let us know!

Lots of press since the passing of CA SB 868. These bills are quite complex and this KQED article does a great job breaking it down.

As Cora says within it: "We are celebrating." We are, every win counts towards the bigger movement we're shaping!

Earlier this year we heard about Plug-In Solar from our speaker Rupert Mayer with @brightsaver.bsky.social. He and his group did it, they pushed California and voila... balcony solar is now legal!

Whoop whoop!

Plug-in solar legislation, CA SB 868 has been signed into law!

From Bloomberg: “ ' The world's fourth-largest economy has opened up the market to balcony solar,' said Cora Stryker"

Congratulations Californians, this is a huge win for the movement!
More to come.

“ 'We are moving toward a new energy system built primarily on renewables, complemented by the sustainable use of biomass and, above all, green hydrogen,' he said." - IRENA Director-General Francesco La Camera

Green hydrogen... what do you all think?!

@brightsaver.bsky.socialSep 28, 2026, 7:05 PM

"US renewable energy and utility-scale battery storage capacity increased by more than 88.7GW between 1 February 2025 and 31 July 2026."

If one idea becomes increasingly clear above all, there is no reason to give up hope in the climate fight!

"Cora Stryker, co-founder of rooftop solar non-profit Bright Saver, tells PV Tech Premium why interconnection reform, tenant rights and regulatory coordination will determine how quickly balcony solar can scale."

Look out for 2027. Renters, we're thinking of you!

With time running short in the fight against climate change, some panelists also called for a bit of solarpunk spirit, and even guerrilla solar, to accelerate this movement. For those who are curious about solar punk, be on the lookout for a further explanation on IG soon.

Featuring Bill McKibben and Utah State Rep Raymond Ward: The conversation traced how plug-in solar laws have spread, starting with Utah, and the opportunities in other states. Panelists stressed that renters' rights will be key in driving plug-in solar's momentum, as was the case in Germany!

Our team has been busy at Climate Week New York, speaking at multiple events and connecting with fellow clean energy advocates. Yesterday, with Solar United Neighbors (SUN), we hosted a panel discussion: "Plug-In Solar and the Consumer-Led Clean energy Transition" More in comments!

Coming today!

'Electro-ag,' where we can turn renewable electricity directly into food.

"Technologies being developed now could help us grow food without the need for direct sunlight"

Woah... any thoughts on this?
