just last week I was thinking about how app puzzle games are surely rigged / no skill involved (i was briefly hooked on one). also, these games must make people feel 'skilled' / like they're solving puzzles but are just an ad casino, what is that doing to our brains ? www.tiktok.com/@ayoships/vi...

"There’s no getting around the fact that we — as a species and as a planet — are now living in the future that climate scientists have been warning us about for more than half a century."

This is exactly my hesitation. I have even seen people say, 'oh AI has gotten [my area of expertise] wrong, but I use it for [other topics I'm not an expert in].' But how can you trust it? And if I'm constantly checking AI's work via non-AI ways, why use it?

Read this @ktoussaint.bsky.social piece about attribution science, which fossil fuel companies and their shills are trying to undermine because it’s the tool we have for holding fossil fuel companies accountable for climate damage.

the thing about AI-written freelance articles I don't get is...freelance journalism is not a field known for making tons of money, so like, what's the grift? just deterioration of public trust/media?

...this does not make me want to click on this Linkedin ad / look at your company

not surprising this goes back decades. from this research: They knew the issue, knew of options to reduce methane. Instead of making changes, they 'minimized cattle’s contribution to global warming, and challenged the credibility of advocates promoting dietary change'

When I was brand new at FC I got pitched a National Cattlemen's Beef Association white paper outlining the 'minimal environmental footprint of beef production in the US' and immediately called up @worldresources.bsky.social to get a sustainable food experts take: www.fastcompany.com/90431910/the...

Just like Exxon knew about the impacts of climate change, the beef industry knew too. A new PLOS Climate study documents how the National Cattlemen’s Association (NCA), now NCBA, responded to evidence linking cattle methane to global warming from 1986–1996 (study 🔗 at end of 🧵)

🔥 NEW 🔥 They looked like messages from Bay Area residents worried about the cost of new climate rules on heat pumps. But dozens were sent by a company that uses AI. Now we’ve found Chevron gave $150,000 to the group behind the campaign. Read Desmog's latest buff.ly/ad2K6dw

this idea that only you knows what's best for you and other perspectives are not worth considering is a plague

@ktoussaint.bsky.socialOct 5, 2026, 7:08 PM

why would you trust the choice a specific artist made about their song? why would you value a viewpoint from someone who maybe spent years in a certain industry? just tinker around yourself, you can do it all! no expertise required

@ktoussaint.bsky.socialOct 5, 2026, 7:06 PM

thinking about the 'if I don't like a song I can just modify it' AI music post & along with the way it will increase isolation, it's also such an extension of this ire against experts—this idea that you don't need to listen to anyone dedicated to one field, you can figure it out yourself

I know for a fact that this job was filled because I saw the Linkedin post from the person hired, 3 weeks ago, saying they were starting this role. why is it posted again to LinkedIn as if its new?

Yesterday, this part of setting up a Teams meeting just said 'Find a room." you clicked on it, it showed you a list of which office rooms were available. Now we all have Copilot Premium, and suddenly its "Add a room with Copilot." why do I need copilot to do this now? Why does this need AI at all?

A screenshot of Microsoft Teams that shows the interface when trying to schedule a meeting. At the top is the date and time, then a toggle that says "If conflicts arise, let Copilot reschedule this event." Then next to a location icon, it says "Add a room with Copilot" and below that, a toggle to add a Teams meeting link

those links in the AI overview are from 2020 and 2019...

A screenshot of an internet search. At the top in the AI overview it says "Chobani's oat milk line has not been discontinued; it continues to be available in various flavors and has gained significant market share since its launch. The company has also expanded its oat milk offerings with new flavors and product innovations."
Then below the AI overview is a link to an August 11, 2026 article from Big Box Vegan with the headline "Chobani discontinues their oatmilk line."

I am often invited to climate-themed dinners where I have to specifically request a vegan option, because the event isn't naturally vegan, which is always interesting to me...

unsurprisingly, Gilmore Girls was a pivotal show to me. made my husband watch all of it. Then he once said "I think 'eastbound and down' is my 'gilmore girls'" , so very fitting to see both on this list
