We really enjoyed this thought-provoking blog from our William Guy Lecturer (16+) Tom Crick, exploring statistics, misinformation and how we make good judgements in a complex information environment. You can also watch and share Tom's lecture for schools with educators and students.

Our members will be reviewing the report in more detail and we plan to comment more fully on the recommendations for the statistical system in due course.

@royalstatsoc.bsky.socialSep 11, 2026, 11:32 AM

We were especially pleased to see recognition of the importance of the independence of the statistical system in the committee’s report – we had emphasised this in our submission and correspondence and welcome the strong focus.

We welcome the report from PACAC and agree much has already changed. The arrival of the new national statistician presents an opportunity to accelerate progress and we remain committed to supporting the statistical system through the required ongoing transformation in the production of statistics.
