@benfrancisco.bsky.socialThanks for the shout out, C.S.E.! Some great shows - a mini renassaince of Latinx SF on the screen!
@csecooney.bsky.socialReposted by @benfrancisco.bsky.socialIn celebration of the last week of Latinx Heritage Month, which ends October 15th, the WONDERFUL @benfrancisco.bsky.social wrote this wonderful article for @reactorsff.bsky.social!
@benfrancisco.bsky.socialYeah it's actually pretty great! And I say that as a huge fan of the novel.
@benfrancisco.bsky.socialThere has been a mini-renaissance lately of TV shows adapting great Latinx SF! 100 Years of Solitude, Like Water for Chocolate, El eternauta, House of the Spirits, and the horror stories of Mariana Enriquez. Check out my Reactor article for a rundown - including advice on proper prep for reach show!
@benfrancisco.bsky.socialI feel the same way! Loved the original film of Como aqua para chocolate and wish I'd mentioned that too! And even with that one I see the benefit of the longer TV series format for adapting such wonderful sweeping novels.
@reactorsff.bsky.socialReposted by @benfrancisco.bsky.socialLatin American SFF has received a surge of interest over the last few years–a trend reflected in the number of excellent TV adaptations across genres.
@benfrancisco.bsky.social recommends 5 series inspired from Latinx genre classics, from The House of the Spirits to Like Water for Chocolate!
@jasonsanford.bsky.socialReposted by @benfrancisco.bsky.socialGood news: @sfwa.bsky.social's Recommended Reading List once again lives! The general public and SFWA members can sort the list to see what SF/F novels, stories, poems, comics, scripts and games are receiving the most love and attention from the org's writers. 1/

@benfrancisco.bsky.socialSo glad you enjoyed the story! I'm rooting for Javier and Mateo too. :)
@tanglepretty.bsky.socialReposted by @benfrancisco.bsky.socialToday's SFF story: Brincando Charcos by @benfrancisco.bsky.social in Strange Horizons. I was rooting for Javier and Mateo so hard. A tender, honest story about what magic is and isn't, and people learning how to get out of their own way. strangehorizons.com/fiction/brin...
