Go to your camera roll and search “boat” and then post a picture of a boat you like. We weren’t the only ones on the ocean returning from Dry Tortugas National Park

I ordered this cute French Bulldog pin online for my friend for Christmas. This is why I start shopping in October.

I don’t get this. I have yet to figure out anything that AI can do to make my home or work life better. I’m thoroughly unimpressed. How do people blow this kind of money?

My son turns 30 next month, so I think we’re getting close.

I did.

Yeah, I used to post links 2x daily (back in the days of real Twitter), but it didn’t gain me enough traffic to make it worth my time.

I have yet to have any marketing success, weird or otherwise.

This is a step in the right direction, but I think some tribes might still be missing from this map. Nimipu (Nez Perce) and Navajo come to mind.

A little bit of recentism here, but I've been impressed by Helene Wecker. For three books she's kept about four parallel plots going and none of them get in the way of the other.

Okay, since I've been yammering about my most recent novel and its non-linear timeline and subplots, here you go:

Sounds like dangling is approved! #WriteStuff

I may be the wrong person to ask, since my main stories tend to NOT conclude. But no, subplots don't need to resolve neatly. They can, and it can make for a fun story. But it isn't necessary

Hooks for the next books! I love this! #WriteStuff

A6: I think they can absolutely dangle. Mine did. #WriteStuff

Ex: My MC fools around with the friend of her husband in a flashback. We don't know what happened to the friend.

@pamportland.orgOct 14, 2026, 1:47 AM

I use them because my last novel was a non-linear timeline. My flashback were subplots (and occasionally other characters), and even indications of my MC coming apart at the seams, that eventually fit into the current timeline of her melting down. #WriteStuff

#Writestuff A5 Yeah, I led the witness there. But for everyone struggling, this is the key. You have supporting characters to interact with your main character and those interactions have to have a foundation. If you can't get that foundation in your main plot, build it with a subplot.

@pamportland.orgOct 14, 2026, 1:39 AM

A5: While subplots absolutely should serve this purpose, it is not why I use them. #WriteStuff
