The 56-year-old Mexican man who died Saturday while in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody was a lawful permanent resident in the country, the agency said in a statement. ICE added he was detained because officers believed he obtained his legal status in the U.S. fraudulently.

No, in both Rider Tools and Metro Pulse when you search for an address it shows you blue dots for the nearby bus stops. It does not show you all the nearby bus lines (like, lines that show where the bus goes). You can only see bus lines by searching for a bus line or clicking on a specific bus stop.

This has in common w other moral panics that it's terrifying to contemplate your kids stopping speaking to you for no reason. Rather like thinking about your kids being abused by a Satanic cult at daycare! So people click on the articles & so outlets produce more articles.

Hi @metrobusinfo.bsky.social and @metrobusinfo.bsky.social, buseta.wmata.com/ no longer lets you search for an address and shows a map of nearby bus routes w lines showing where they go. Now it makes you pick a specific bus stop. Please restore this functionality and add it to Metro Pulse too!

Looking forward to the Chief Justice of the United States once again saying and doing absolutely nothing about the President once again going after an individual federal judge for applying the law when the President deliberately breaks it.

Trump: "The Department of Interior wants to take a terrible and very unsafe golf course, and make it into a great, safe, and prestigious golf course ... They do not need an approval. Work is scheduled to begin IMMEDIATELY!"

The United States Department of Interior wants to take a terrible and very unsafe golf course, and make it into a great, safe, and prestigious golf course. They have an absolute right to do so. It’s as simple as that! The judge on the case is a crazed lunatic whose courthouse tapes will reveal, may be insane? The tapes have been blocked from usage by the judge. The random golfer bringing the ridiculous lawsuit has ZERO STANDING! The experts at “Interior” are allowed to do this First Class renovation “as of right.” They do not need an approval. Work is scheduled to begin IMMEDIATELY! The finished product will be World Class, and bring income and great prestige back to D.C. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DJT

California’s billionaires have a combined net worth of $2.4 trillion. Under Prop 40, their net worth would fall to…just under $2.3 trillion. What amounts to a rounding error for them would allow millions of their fellow Californians to afford healthcare. Vote yes on Prop 40.

will try to answer these in a piece next week but for now i will say that part of the *point* of court expansion, in my mind, is to create a disequilibrium — a potential race to the bottom — that will force a truce.

SSteve Vladeck@stevevladeck.bsky.socialOct 15, 2026, 11:34 AM

Calls for expanding #SCOTUS are entirely (and increasingly) understandable. But as today's "One First" explains, there are at least four difficult questions that those who support expansion should have to answer—especially as compared to other possible reforms: www.stevevladeck.com/p/bonus-257-...

Screenshot from the post listing the four questions Court expansion proponents should have to answer:

1. How do we avoid touching off a race to the bottom, where each time one party controls the House, Senate, and presidency, it expands the Court to ensure an ideologically and politically sympathetic majority?

2. If a race to the bottom is unavoidable, how do we avoid further (and potentially fatal) erosion of public confidence in the Court—which will quite transparently be little more than a lever of power for whichever party last had such a trifecta?

3. If eroding public confidence in the Court is a feature, and not a bug, how do we insulate against the same erosion of public confidence in lower federal courts?

4. What is the case for why expansion is a better way to achieve the desired reforms than alternatives that would (or, at least, should) avoid many of these forward-looking concerns?

@jennyhunter.bsky.socialOct 15, 2026, 4:02 PM

4. Why aren't the reforms you prefer--threatening or actually changing the Court's budget, docket, calendar, etc.--subject to the same objections that they would result in a partisan tit-for-tat cycle and harm public confidence in the Court?

@jennyhunter.bsky.socialOct 15, 2026, 4:02 PM

3. Do you really think the strategy of making the Court "look over its shoulder" by threatening its budget, etc. would work with THIS right-wing supermajority? Wouldn't many of them rather die (rhetorically speaking) than change their approach to judging?

@jennyhunter.bsky.socialOct 15, 2026, 4:02 PM

2. Do you think that the Supreme Court is not currently a partisan actor? If so, why? If not, why should the public have confidence that that is the case?

@jennyhunter.bsky.socialOct 15, 2026, 4:02 PM

Many have responded to these Qs already. Here are some others: 1. Do you think Rs will refrain from changing the size of the Court if necessary to preserve their power if Ds don't open the door? Why, given they already shrank SCOTUS to 8 in 2016-17 and have expanded high courts in UT, AZ, & GA?
