Did I read that right? 14 million avoidable deaths by 2030?

Timeful has been the best tool for coordinating meeting times for me and it's OSS and now free: timeful.app/blog/timeful...
I like how you can seamlessly transition between flat and iso-view.
I do like the animation a lot, though.
For fairness, I’ll tag @angieboggust.bsky.social :-P.
Yes, @fredhohman.bsky.social and @angieboggust.bsky.social have a bet who gets more engagement for their posts.

Even bigger announcement: Skeleton has won Best Paper (top 1%) at IEEE VIS this year!! 🎉 VIS is my home community and I am deeply indebted to many of the people in it. I take a little time to pontificate on what "best paper" means to me (or rather, what I think it should really be about):
But does it run doom?

Love this so much niklasroy.com/gtc/. An art project to build a working clock out of trash in the region famous for precision clocks.
Preview on Mac is seriously powerful and I've used many of the features but this video showed me a few new tricks. youtu.be/FMiTNASBHiE
As @edlazowska.bsky.social said (iirc), we like the metrics that make us look good.

“Air pollution fell substantially as Paris restricted car traffic and made way for parks, people-streets and bike-lanes.” Better for the climate, better for health, better for livability and quality of life. Common sense. Such a no-brainer, it’s remarkable that more cities HAVEN’T done the same.
I found having conversations with the new Siri quite useful. I could ask about “getting directions to the street my friend texted me about a few weeks ago” or have it explain some historical context or natural phenomenon completely hands-free.
I think we will need a few active folks to kick off the conversations and reach critical mass.
Yes, the experience with discord where conversations stayed siloed and ended after the conference was another big motivator. I’m happy people are excited about the experiment and even proposed to not have slido but use bluesky discussions for everything.
That would be cool. @eugenevinitsky.bsky.social already offered to help in bsky.app/profile/euge.... We like to have the discussions where the papers and schedule are and already have our own website but I’d be happy to try a Lea page as well. What do you need from us to set that up?
