If it’s your job to review applicants for employment and you’re relying on AI/ATS to determine a candidate’s qualifications, you’re not DOING your job. In fact, you should be terminated and replaced. Read the resumes. Read the cover letters. Earn your paycheck.

So I want to get my application and resume into the hands of an actual living person, and I need that to happen ASAP. If you have a friend—or a friend of a friend—who works at BOOM!, please let me know so I can move forward on this right away. Or let them know that I'm available.

My issue isn’t the rejection itself (however absurd that is), it’s that my application very obviously was never viewed by a human being. Some computer program/AI scanned my application and decided that no, I wasn’t qualified.

Literally AN HOUR LATER, at 2 a.m., I received a automated notice saying that “after reviewing all applications” I was rejected because they’ve “chosen to proceed with candidates whose skills…more closely align with the role.”

I took over that annual from Dan Thorsland (who’d just left DC). Although the cover/script had been commissioned, the bulk of the issue was the first thing I edited on my own. It’s an excellent cover. I’m amazed it wasn’t returned at the time. DC’s art return system was pretty solid, as I recall.

I had one. I remember the exact moment my mom gave it me. I wish I still had it!
