Hey everyone. Running a little short on rent this month as I readjust to things, a new schedule and as things pick up while I finish catching up. Anything is helpful and thank you

My pal @rezzyjulzz.bsky.social took Oct and I to a pumpkin walk at the zoo with his fam this past weekend and Iโve been thinking nonstop about all the jack-oโ-lanterns!! ๐
They had 8k carved pumpkins apparently which is nuts!! They were all in the trees and bushes too! ๐๐งก

Damn I'm all over the place lmao, these games were so fun growing up
It permeates so many parts of our lives as Native ppl. We can't even control our own narrative. We struggle to get our stories & our experiences out there bc these false "Natives" have already projected an image of us to the world. The world will often simply say "No! Native ppl don't think like u".
The biggest thing is that a person like that often has a bigger reach both locally & online where others around them are ignorant to the fact that a lot of people falsely claim Native identity, so their false narrative spreads faster than we can use our own voices as Native people.
There's a sinister trend online (and in person at times) where white people say "I'm a small part Native & racism doesn't happen to me/I'm not offended by X/I think Native ppl are wrong". Not only is it blatantly dishonest, but because we are a small part of the population, they often outnumber us.
real quick, outside of the context: as a qpoc trying to organize, this specific behavior is SO COMMON and SO FRUSTRATING. it's like y'all were never taught how to communicate beyond fighting. you don't know how to build community via communication. y'all (white folks) need to handle that.
We can't even speak about the truth of what was done to our people without white supremacists like this showing up. Canada isn't a safe place for Indigenous people.
September 30 is #OrangeShirtDay, honoring the thousands of Indigenous children who attended government-run and church-run residential/boarding schools in Canada and the US, honoring those who never came home as well as those who survived, honoring their families.
I was speaking earlier and told the story of my grandfather who was in a boarding school. One of the parts of the story I always remember is how they forced him to eat steak despite having never had it (he ate venison and mutton at home). He would throw it up & they would keep forcing him to eat it.
On this day Iโm thinking of all residential school survivors - my aunties and uncles and grandparents and in particular but also Phyllis Webstad, the founder of the Orange Shirt Society whose memoir I wrote the foreword for - check it out!
