This. Also, big AI critic here, one of many reasons for that is lack of accuracy. Unclear how deliberately making it less accurate helps anyone, even though I want to make most all of Gen AI go away

This is something I've been saying for ages re: how centrists treat the left. If left-wing positions aren't popular enough to win elections, then left-wing voters can't lose an election for you. If left-wing voters can tip an election for you, their positions need to be accommodated.

This is great news!

JD Vance on H-1B recipients: "It's one thing if you were to bring in a person like Elon Musk. I think 99% of American citizens look at somebody like Elon Musk and say, 'if that person wants to come in and build something great in the US, we support that.' But if you're bringing in an accountant... "

Anthropic banning “abusive or cruel behavior” toward Claude in its new usage policies is proof to me that tech companies are going to moderate violence against AI before they ever moderate violence against women and minorities

Them: You can't criticize AI unless you use it constantly. Someone who uses AI constantly: Finally a replacement for the tiresome ordeal of showing love to my child.

When I marched in Take Back The Night rallies a couple decades ago, I couldn’t have imagined this turn out. Hell fucking yeah to these students.

It's that time of year: lots of people will be sick, and many won't know what sickness it is. It's a good idea to get tested, but even if you don't know what it is, *please* stay home as much as possible, get plenty of rest to help yourself recover, and wear masks if you have to go out while sick!

I really know this isn’t the point, but seeing “covid mask” instead of “n95” or “respirator” or something makes me want to pull my hair out, that we can somehow be this many years into this and people still haven’t learned what a mask is or that it protects from multiple things

"Most people’s understanding of lethal injection—as a humane alternative to more overtly brutal executions of yore—is in stark contrast to the actual barbarism behind the procedure. This misconception is no coincidence: it’s by design." #MsReads via @motherjones.com

I feel strangely optimistic that the billionaires rebranding AI suggests they know that we know AI is fucking terrible and won’t accept a lot of it

Sending me a picture of my own house along with a homeowner’s insurance quote… is this a threat?

@stephabaker.bsky.socialOct 7, 2026, 9:56 AM

Hope you get lots of rest and heal quickly and thoroughly

Would accept this job

Also is the implication here that we shouldn’t be worried about a potential 1 in 29 people dying from an illness? That’s over 3 percent!

Kids housebound or bedbound with Long COVID created superheroes inspired by their experiences with chronic illness and disability. Their heroes find strength in resting, asking for help and compassion. The characters now feature in a 72-page full-colour comic, Long Covid Superheroes.

If the other side’s ideology is fascism, it’s bad to hang and have lunch with them actually. Do not normalize these people.

I worked at an arts college where a leader told me their campus community was “naturally progressive” so sexual violence and racism weren’t really problems there (while I provided direct support to students who regularly reported sexual violence and racist incidents to me)

What’s worse, is a school administrator today would never even acknowledge that something happened to the student like in this (horrifying) letter
